The Silent Symptom That Kills Sales
Imagine this scene: You walk into your favorite coffee shop. You've been going every Tuesday for the past two years. And yet, when you get to the bar, the barista looks at you with vacant eyes and asks: “What's your name and what are you going to order?”.
You feel like an outsider. You feel your loyalty is worthless. You'll probably try somewhere else next time.
This is what I call Corporate Amnesia. And while in a coffee shop it's annoying, in a B2B or High-Ticket service company, it's lethal.
If a customer has bought from you 10 times and your sales team still has to search through Excel or WhatsApp chats to find out who it is, you are not only inefficient; in the eyes of the customer, you are incompetent.
The Supermarket Analogy: Shooting Blindly
In the recent video I shared on my networks, I used the supermarket example to illustrate the lack of data:

“Imagine a supermarket that never knows who you are. You go in every day and they treat you like a stranger. They never offer you the Nutella you bought last week.”
A business without memory operates reactively. It waits for the customer to walk in the door (or write via DM) to sell to them.
A business with Data Intelligence (CRM) operates proactively. It knows you bought that jar of Nutella 15 days ago. It knows that, statistically, you're running out today. And before you even think about it, it sends you a personalized offer: “Out of Nutella? Here's a 10% in your refill.”.
The customer thinks: “They read my mind!”. Reality: We read the data.
What is a CRM (Beyond Software)?
The acronym stands for Customer Relationship Management (Customer Relationship Management), but I like to define it as The Second Brain of your Company.
The human brain is fallible; it forgets names, dates and promises. A CRM is a centralized database that never sleeps and never forgets. Its function is not just to “store contacts”, it is to contextualize the relationship:
- Complete History: What did you buy? When was your last complaint? How much have you spent in total (LTV)?
- Automated Tracking: If a prospect says “contact me in 3 months”, the system will remind you on the exact day. Or better yet, it will write for you.
- Laser Segmentation: You stop sending the same generic email to everyone. Now you send specific messages to “VIP customers who have not purchased in 30 days”.
The Cost of Inaction: Why You Need a YA System
In 2026, competition is not won by price, it's won by attention.
Studies show that it is 5 to 25 times more expensive acquiring a new customer than retaining an existing one. However, most companies spend their entire budget on advertising (Acquisition) and zero on their CRM (Retention).
Having “Corporate Amnesia” means you are leaving money on the table every day:
- You lose cross-selling.
- You lose recurring sales.
- You lose the customer's trust.
Stop Improvising
Installing a CRM is not a technical decision, it is a financial decision. It is deciding that every interaction with your customer is an asset that must be recorded, measured and optimized.
Stop relying on the memory of your salespeople or paper notebooks. Build a company with an elephant's memory. Because in business, he who remembers the most, sells the most.
The term we use to describe a company's inability to remember customer history and preferences. This occurs when sales data is scattered in chats or manual notes instead of a centralized system, resulting in a generic customer experience and loss of recurring sales.
A CRM (Customer Relationship Management) serves as the “second brain” of the company. It not only stores data, but automates tracking, predicts when a customer needs to replenish a product (such as the oil change or Nutella example) and segments offers to increase customer lifetime value (LTV).
It allows you to move from reactive selling (waiting for the customer to order) to proactive selling. By having the data organized, the system can send automatic offers just when the customer is ready to buy, recovering that 79% of leads that are usually lost due to lack of human follow-up.
You should implement it the moment your personal memory or that of your salespeople is no longer sufficient to remember the details of every conversation with every prospect. If you manage more than 20 active customers, doing it manually without a CRM is inefficient and costly.
