Case Study: Web Development and QR Access Control | Expo Construcción 2026

In the dynamic and demanding sector of international fairs, the web platform of an event is not only an information brochure; it is the logistic and commercial engine that guarantees attendance. For the second consecutive year, FMT STUDIO has taken on the challenge of building the web platform for the Costa Rica Construction Expo 2026.

The challenge for this new edition went beyond aesthetics. We needed a digital ecosystem that not only presented the magnitude of the event, but also flawlessly managed ticket sales and physical ticket logistics. Through a strategic development focused on User Experience (UX) and automation, we transformed the usual friction of massive events into a fluid and technologically advanced process.

This case study details how our methodology combined state-of-the-art design with e-commerce systems and real-time access control, setting a new standard for trade show management in the region.

The UX Challenge: Universal Frictionless Accessibility

The main obstacle when designing platforms for massive events of national and international scope is the diversity of the audience. The fundamental premise for this project was to ensure that any user, regardless of age, could purchase tickets.

We could not rely on complex interfaces or interfaces that required in-depth navigational knowledge on the part of the visitor. If a 60-year-old construction professional or a young architecture student encountered any obstacles during the purchase process, the conversion would be lost. The challenge was to strike a perfect balance between high-end corporate aesthetics and a usability (UX) so intuitive that the checkout process felt natural and effortless.

Design Strategy: “Bento Box” Format and Futuristic Minimalism

To solve this usability challenge, at a technical level the platform was developed using the robust tools of Elementor and WordPress. However, the real innovation resided in the visual architecture of the information.

We aimed for an art direction that combined a minimalist and futuristic design, integrating elegant touches that reflected the innovation of the construction industry. To achieve this, we structured the interface using a modern “bento box” format.

This modular design approach (inspired by traditional Japanese boxes) segments information into visually digestible blocks. The format Bento Box allows the user to visit and consume all the specific and necessary information in a quick and agile way. Information about exhibitors, schedules and, most importantly, the purchase of tickets, was presented in a simple and versatile way, guiding the user's eye directly to the conversion without distractions.

E-commerce Ecosystem: Ticket Sales and QR Generation

The transactional heart of the project required a solid infrastructure that would not collapse under traffic peaks. To handle marketing and ticket acquisition, the ticketing system was built entirely with WooCommerce.

To modernize the shopping experience and eliminate the use of physical tickets or manual validation processes, we implemented specialized plugins focused on selling tickets and tickets with QR codes. Once the user completed their payment securely, the system automatically generated and sent a unique, encrypted QR code, ensuring a frictionless transaction and paving the way for the logistics of the in-person event.

Logistics Innovation: Real Time Access Control Application

The scope of this project demonstrated that in FMT STUDIO we do not limit ourselves to the browser screen; we extend our solutions to the physical world. The implementation of specialized plugins for QR codes not only solved the online sale, but also allowed us to generate a specific access control application to be used by the staff during the day of the event.

This application synchronized in real time with the WooCommerce database transformed trade show entry. Operators simply scanned QR codes from attendees' phones, validating entry in milliseconds and preventing fraud or duplicate tickets.

Results and KPIs: Scalability and Access Fluidity

The combination of a design Bento Box highly intuitive and QR validation ecosystem culminated in a resounding success for the fair's organizers. On an operational level, the development of this application and the overall system integration facilitated access for nearly 5,000 people in this new edition.

We were able to eliminate the traditional long lines at the physical ticket offices and reduced manual registration errors to zero, demonstrating that a well-planned web architecture has a direct and immediate impact on the physical logistics of an event of such magnitude.

FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions about Web Design for Mass Events

  1. Why use the “Bento Box” design for a corporate event? The format Bento Box is a design trend that favors visual hierarchy. By packaging information in modular and attractive blocks, we reduce the user's cognitive fatigue. This is vital for events where the visitor needs to find dates, prices and purchase buttons at a glance, without endless scrolling.
  2. Is it safe to use WooCommerce for mass ticketing with QR? Completely. When WooCommerce is configured with scalable server infrastructures and certified payment gateways, it is one of the most secure tools on the market. The generation of unique QR codes adds a layer of cryptographic security that prevents unauthorized resale or pass forgery.
  3. How does an access control App improve the attendee experience? The first physical impression of an event happens at the door. If the attendee has to wait 40 minutes in a line under the sun to have their name searched on a paper list, their experience is already ruined. A QR scanning App validates access in less than a second, ensuring a constant flow of people and projecting an image of modernity and professional efficiency.

Are You Organizing a Massive Event and Need Responsive Technology?

The logistics of an international event allow no margin for error. If your current platform creates friction in sales, crashes during traffic peaks or forces you to manually validate tickets, you are losing revenue and damaging your brand's reputation.

At FMT STUDIO, We design complete digital ecosystems: from websites that convert visitors into buyers in seconds, to scanning applications that ensure seamless physical access.
